I Love Mexican Vacations
Vacations in Mexico remain one of the best travel deals available.
Do I need a VISA to travel to Mexico?
Going to Cozumel and I heard that all I need is my birth certificate to travel to Mexico. I am a US citizen.
Nope.
Just your passport.

You don't need a visa, but I think the new rules state that you must have a US Passport. The birth certificate is no longer enough. There are huge waits right now to get a passport, so be sure you leave enough time to receive it before you leave for your trip to Mexico.

I live in Cozumel.
We get a lot of cruise ship passengers that are traveling with only a birth certificate… it ok to have just a birth certificate if you are traveling on a cruise.
If you are flying in, you will need a passport.
If you are a US citizen, you do not need a visa.

I too am a US Citizen and just returned from Mexico. You are required to have a US passport as of the start of this year. However, because a surge of applications Homeland Security is allowing travel with proof that you've applied for the passport and can travell without it up to 9/30/07. HLS may extend this date (if you need the passport sooner than the 6-8 weeks you can expidite it for an additional fee)
You can get all you need on their official website http://travel.state.gov/
Have fun travelling and definite visit Chichenitza for the Mayan pyramids!

Simply put… a visa is permission from the country you want to visit to enter their country. You do not need a visa to visit Mexico. You will get a tourist card on the plane or ship or at the border if you drive. It costs about $22.00 U.S.D. A passport is the ultimate I.D. form given to you by YOUR country to identify you as a citizen when you leave and return to your own country. If you travel to Mexico by land you do not need a passport yet. If you fly, you absolutely do need a passport. If you go by sea, a passport is not required by law yet, but many cruise lines do require their passengers to have them…so call the cruise line and ask. See website below to read the law and 2nd website for all passport info.
