if you are an american citizen they cant deny you entrance back to america as long as u have proof (birth certificate) and you will be asked millions of questions and searched for not having a passport. make it easy and purchase one. or visit cbp.gov

That is a totally unfounded rumor. You may be able to enter Mexico without a passport, but you definetly need one to return to the U.S.

You need next to nothing to enter Mexico. The problem is returning to the U.S.A No changes were made to Mexican laws. they require ID and a birth certificate to get an F.M.T.
You can FLY with a Green Card.
You can get back into the states without the passport but one is required by law. In other words you will be warned and infomed an told to get a passport

If you look like Bin Laden or your name is Mohammed I sheetmadrawers you may have a long delay

other than a close loop cruise, you have to have a passport to go to mexico this is what is on the government website.....All Americans traveling by air outside of the United States are required to present a passport or other valid travel document to re-enter the United States. This requirement was extended to sea travel (except closed-loop cruises), including ferry service, on June 1, 2009. Starting June 1, 2009, all travelers entering the U.S. by land, sea or air were required to present a Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) compliant document such as a passport or a passport card. While passport cards and enhanced driver’s license are sufficient for re-entry into the United States, they may not be accepted by the particular country you plan to visit; please be sure to check with your cruise line and countries of destination for any foreign entry requirements. U.S. legal permanent residents in possession of their I-551 Permanent Resident card may board flights to the United States from Mexico.

You should check this rumor out with the ICE web site. If you take the word of someone on YA, you may wind up in Mexico and can’t get back into the U.S.
