Comedy - general DVD - Travel around the world in about 60 minutes with this collection of six vintage Disney cartoons set in far-flung and exotic locales. First stop is the American wilderness, the backdrop for the 1948 featurette “The Legend of Johnny Appleseed,” from the anthology film Make Mine Music. Next stop is Mexico for the 1949 Mickey and Pluto cartoon “Pueblo Pluto.” Goofy makes for an inspired traveling companion as a hapless hunter in “Tiger Trouble” (1945) and “The Fox Hunt” (1938) and a vacationer in “Hello Aloha” (1952). The last stop in this collection is its summit: the 1936 classic “Alpine Climbers,” featuring Mickey, Donald, and Pluto. Considering that all of these have been previously released in other compilations or the archival Walt Disney Treasures sets, one might ask, “Is this trip necessary?” If you’re a more casual Disney collector or a cartoon-loving kid with an hour to fill, the answer is yes. Geography is a savvy way to thematically market these shorts, but save for “Johnny Appleseed,” they are of little educational value. Just sit back and enjoy the scenery, the vivid personality animation, and just the sheer artistry of Disney’s peerless animators. - Walt Disney’s It’s A Small World Of Fun 3 at Barnes and Noble
