there is an island at the very northern tip of the yucatan peninsula called"Holbox" pronounced hole-bosch...they cater more to the europeans than americans...therefore its not advertised here....it is very quiet, peaceful and serene....not much nightlife...very laid back....no paved streets,no vehicles except--golf carts and motorbikes...oh the occasional delivery truck that comes in on the ferry boat...to get there from cancun....purchase round trip air only to cancun....upon arrival find taxi driver to take you to Puerto Chiquila..this is the small town where you catch the boat to the island...taxi cost--70-80 dollars...they do have shuttle vans but you have to wait for their times...again at the Port of Chiquilia...you can wait for the ferry or hire a water taxi...this small island is also a bird sanctuary and home to migrating whale sharks(huge yet harmless..despite the name)...lots of beaches to walk down and make love on...at times when we have visited in the past it has seemed as though there was no other tourists there.....AAAHHH PARADISE...i would recommend staying there for a few days and then going to Isla Mujeres..its another very cool small island....many day trip cruises from cancun but not so many people staying on island ...a little more nitelife than Holbox....or stay a couple nites in Cancun...i would recommend a small hotel...not on the beach but downtown..called the Carrillo's hotel....near the markets and the bars and hotel zone are easy to access from there....have fun ....welcome home to your boyfriend
References :
i have traveled extensively to mexico

If you want to find some privacy during your vacation to Mexico, don't go to the big resort areas.

The Riviera Maya is the coast south of Cancun where the resorts are more spread out. For a clothing optional situation, check out the Desire Resort & Spa Riviera Maya.
References :
http://www.allinclusiveblog.com

A great place with amazing beaches is a place called Huatulco. It is on the pacific coast in southern Oaxaca which is one of the most southern states in mexico. It is not an over populated place like cancun or acapulco. Those two places are great, but their can be a lot of people. Huatulco is place with a lot less people. Go to yahoo or goggle and search Huatulco Mexico and you will find all kind of information about it.
