I Love Mexican Vacations
Vacations in Mexico remain one of the best travel deals available.
Is it safe for my family and I to be going on vacation to Cancun, Mexico?
I know there are gang wars and we are planning to spnd the vacation in a hotel near the beach in Cancun, Mexico. Is it safe?
cancun is safer than most american cities. the drug violence is mostly along the border. if you are not involved in the drug trade you have nothing to worry about. mexico has a lot invested in the tourist trade and drug lords are not gunning for american tourists….americans, after all, are their biggest customers. plus, they dont want to extradited to an american prison for killing american tourists. mexican narcotraficantes are scared to death of being extradited to the u.s for some reason.
you are in more danger of being date raped by a fellow american than getting gunned down by a mexican hit man for a drug cartel.dont believe the media hype…the only americans to die from violence spilling over to this side are the ones involved in it. go to cancun and have fun.

Safe enough if you keep to the resort and the tourist areas. Use licensed taxi companies, hotel shuttles, and tours booked through the hotel, if you're doing anything like that. No wandering off on your own. There's safety in numbers if you use these cautions.
I don't think it's safe to drive around in a rented car in areas you don't know. If you walk or run, don't risk it off-resort…use the gym.
I just had friends come back from there. They followed these common suggestions, and they had a great time.

We own a timeshare down in Cancun and go there quite often. Beautiful weather, local people are wonderful, just practice the same level of safety that you do here in the states and you'll be fine.
For additional info, please refer to the USA Today link below. The article ran in last Friday's Destinations section.

Personally i'm Mexican i love my country dearly but NO its not safe anymore it was but its not anymore Mexico is practically run by drug lords now. My cousin from Mexico told us one time she was in a restaurant and saw a man come in with a machine gun and sit down and eat like nothing.
