I Love Mexican Vacations

Vacations in Mexico remain one of the best travel deals available.

Is it wise to get all 4 wisdom teeth pulled 5 days before leaving for a week long vacation in Mexico?

I'm getting all 4 wisdom teeth pulled on a Friday and flying out for vacation in Mexico 5 days later. I am considering rescheduling, but my oral surgeon is difficult to get into and my work is very demanding in the next couple months so I can't take off.

I guess what I am asking is if those who have had this procedure felt good enough to go party in Mexico for a week 5 days after their surgery. Thanks!

I had all of my wisdom teeth cut out and went to work that night. As long as you take your pain meds every 4 hours, and rinse with salt water often, you will feel just fine after 3 to 4 days. It is not as bad as people make it out to be!

Have a Margarita for me!

    Heck no!

Having wisdom teeth removed is a minor surgery. If their are tooth fragments, they will have to work themselves out over the next week or two. If you get an infection, you will have to see a local doctor for treatment.

So if they are not hurting you right now, wait until you get back. Besides, if you are drinking, eating, and having a good time, the last thing you need to worry about is how things are healing in the back of your mouth!

It's wise if your goal is to look like a chimp your entire vacation.

    Otherwise, reschedule.

I sure wouldn't! You're still going to be sore and also you have to think if you have some sort of complications while you're in Mexico like dry socket? You sure don't want to have to go to one of there hospitals or cut your vacation short. I would reschedule if I was you.

I had all four taken out during spring break once. The worst part about the recovery was the antibiotics making me nauseous all the time. Only the first few nights involved groaning in pain and swelling, at least for me and several other people I know. I think five days is more than enough to heal if you follow the recovery instructions to a T. Good luck on the surgery and have fun in Mexico!

it depends on how you heal….after i had 4 of mine out at the same time, my face swelled up like a balloon, with big bruises on the outside of my jaw, and it took about 2 weeks for it to go down. But that is because i am slow healer and bruise very easily.

Probably not, while you are usually feeling much better by day 5, you could have things go wrong. You may end up getting an infection and being in pain. You don't want to ruin your vaca.

I think by day 5, the pain will have subsided (I didn't really have pain, just an uncomfortable feeling). You might be a little puffy, but definitely not as puffy as day 1.

From my experience (all 4 pulled) a few months ago, I would say go for it!! have fun.

I think it depends on how your extractions go. If they are simple to remove and you do all things you are supposed to do…I see no problem. If the extractions are difficult, I would reconsider the trip.
